Learning how to meditate is similar among many different cultures and religions. This holds true in most parts of meditation, from planning your meditation session to using the right posture, the right time to meditate, choosing the right place to meditate and recognizing our emotions and thoughts. All these points are important but don’t worry too much about any one thing when you are just beginning to learn how to meditate. It will take effort and the will to experience an enlightening and joyful meditation as you begin to unwrap the many layers that define who you think you are and experience the wonderful benefits of meditation. It is important that you learn how to meditate the correct way to get the most from your meditation experience.

Choose Your Meditation Spot

The best place to meditate is one where you won’t be distracted and can spend time alone without interruptions and noise. Find a comfortable room that gives you a feeling of peace and serenity. The spot you choose will begin to absorb the energy you create during your meditations so if at first you don’t have a perfect spot don’t worry you will be programing the area you choose. As you continue to program your energy into your meditation spot you will start reaching deeper states of relaxation

When To Meditate

Try to develop a routine and a consistent time that you meditate every day. The morning would be a good time to meditate, before you have been overrun by your daily routine. Our daily responsibilities put us under a lot of stress and the demands make it harder for us to have a good meditation when we try to sit and relax. If you want your day to be more joyful and relaxing be consistent with your morning meditations.

A Meditation Plan

Planning your meditation is important when you start learning how to meditate. The correct state of mind is crucial if you are going to be productive. If you come home from a long day of work and then just sit right down and meditate you will spend the entire meditation trying to calm your mind. You would be better off if you took a short walk to relax your body from all the stresses and sensory input of the day. If you are tired than maybe you can take a cool shower or even an energizing fresh fruit drink. It is very important to approach your meditations with the right mindset and will help you get the most from your meditations.

Posture

The best position is to be seated with a straight back. You can sit in either a chair with a straight back or on the floor on a cushion. imagine the energy flowing from the ground through your body and out through your head. Picture an invisible cord attached to your head, which is pulling your body upright. This technique will help allow the energy to flow through your body unrestricted

Place your hands on you thighs and relax your fingers letting go of all the tension in your arms and hands. Tuck you chin down and start to relax you jaw and your tongue. Place your tongue to the roof of your mouth or up against the upper teeth with you mouth open ever so slightly. Focus your gaze with half opened eyes, seeing but not really noticing anything. Imagine yourself in a trance like state of awareness and no awareness at all. Do the same thing with any sounds you hear, you notice the sounds but you don’t give them any importance. Let them become part of the background music, which becomes part of the meditation and no more important than anything else in your field of consciousness.

The Breath

When you start to learn how to meditate you will notice that your mind is moving wildly from thought to thought as our minds struggle to gain control once again. You must learn to let go of these thoughts and focus your attention on your breath. Counting your breaths is a good way to stay focused. To count your breaths, one breath in and one breath out will be a count of one. To help train yourself to quiet your mind try doing a series of 15 to 20 breaths. Breath in prana energy and breath out stress and anxiety. Prana is the life force of God. Using the vision of prana we are training our minds to tap into the universal power, which gives us life.
